2022 annual report

We are delighted to share our annual report, looking back at our work in 2022, as well as looking forward in the shape of our strategy for 2023-2025.

2022 was another difficult year for people in prison, with slow progress towards the return of pre-Covid regimes, a rising population and continuing calls for reform around IPP. We saw continued demand for our service, with new applications arriving every week, and many depictions of the loneliness and isolation that people were enduring. However this was also a year in which New Bridge Trustees, staff and volunteers were able to come together to create an ambitious new 3-year strategy to help us grow to meet existing and future demand, and ensure that the service we provide is high quality and impactful. We were also heartened to see an excellent response to our autumn volunteer recruitment campaign, at a time when many charities are struggling to recruit volunteers, meaning that we could match even more people in prison with a befriender.

The report features moving quotes from people in prison about how much they value their connection with our wonderful community of volunteers, as well as some statistics around who our service users are, and the impact that our volunteers have on them. We also share quotes from our volunteers, including the reflections of one person from the beginning of her journey up until now.

Finally, the report features a strategy section, outlining our key goals for the 2023-25 period, including our ambitious intention to double the number of people we support by the end of 2025. We set out each of our strategic goals, how we intend to reach them, and how people can support us to do so.
